Microsoft to spend $80 billion in FY’25 on data centers for AI

January 3, 2025: Microsoft Plans $80B Investment in AI Data Centers - Microsoft plans to invest $80 billion in fiscal year 2025 to build AI data centers worldwide, with over half allocated to the United States. This initiative will support AI model training and AI and cloud applications globally. Microsoft Vice Chair Brad Smith stressed AI's transformative potential and the need for U.S. leadership.

In addition to this, Microsoft and OpenAI have discussed a $100 billion AI supercomputer project. However, the rising energy needs of AI could strain power resources at data centers in the future.
