OpenAI will soon phase out GPT-4 from ChatGPT

April 11, 2025: OpenAI Retires GPT-4, Introduces Superior GPT-4o - OpenAI will retire GPT-4 from ChatGPT by April 30, replacing it with the advanced GPT-4o, known for superior writing, coding, and conversation capabilities. While GPT-4 will no longer be part of ChatGPT, it remains accessible through API amidst copyright disputes. Initially launched in March 2023, GPT-4 included multimodal capabilities and was succeeded by the faster GPT-4 Turbo in November 2023.

OpenAI plans to introduce new model families as part of their ongoing model development. These include GPT-4.1 and reasoning models such as o3 and o4-mini, aiming to enhance and expand their offerings.
