Perplexity acquires Carbon to connect AI search to your work files

December 18, 2024: Perplexity Acquires Carbon for Enhanced AI Search - Perplexity has acquired Seattle-based startup Carbon to boost its AI search capabilities. Carbon's expertise in retrieval augmented generation (RAG) will allow Perplexity to integrate AI systems with various enterprise applications such as Notion, Google Docs, and Slack, facilitating access to work files and messages by early 2025. This acquisition positions Perplexity to develop enterprise search products that efficiently navigate unstructured corporate data.

As competition in AI enterprise search intensifies, Perplexity aims to compete with major players like OpenAI and Glean. This acquisition marks Perplexity's second, following its acquisition of Spellwise in 2023.
